Thanks to Gabriel, I had the chance to review a copy of [0PT-0UT]'s eponymous Industrial Metal EP.
As typical of the genre, [0PT-0UT] has a harsh sound full of distortion and effects. The covers, "So What" and "1996", stick pretty closely to the originals but are a bit heavier. These two tracks along with "Queen of Lies", are more on the Metal side of the fusion genre, while "Intro", "Crawling", and "Outro" mix in more of the Industrial sound. This gives the album a less cohesive feel than it could have, but the consistent vocal distortion offsets this and the variety in the sound makes for a nice change of pace.
The themes are also typical of the genre: despair, emotional problems, issues with interpersonal relationships, and general angst.
If I had to guess at the group's inflences, I would have to go with Marilyn Manson, K.M.F.D.M., and Gravity Kills based on the music. In terms of the themes, I can definitely hear some early Nine Inch Nails coming through.
With its styles and themes grounded in the genre's roots, [0PT-0UT] would make be a welcome addition to any Industrial Metal fan's collection. I look forward to hearing more from them soon.
